FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Welcome to the N. E. Miles Jewish Day School.

There is something distinctive about a school where every child is truly known. At NEMJDS, students are surrounded by teachers who understand them, classmates who care about one another, and a community deeply invested in their success. We are proud to offer an education that is academically strong, personally meaningful, and grounded in Jewish values.

Our small classes make differentiated instruction possible every day. Teachers can adjust pace, challenge, support, and learning strategies based on each student’s needs. Students are encouraged to think critically, ask thoughtful questions, take intellectual risks, and develop confidence in their own abilities.

Just as important is the kind of people they are becoming. Jewish learning and values are woven throughout the NEMJDS experience, helping students develop a strong sense of identity, responsibility, compassion, and connection to community. Through leadership, service, experiential learning, and community partnerships, our students learn that they can make a meaningful difference.

I have always believed that student safety, physical, emotional, spiritual, and academic, is among the most important responsibilities of a school. Children learn best when they feel secure, supported, respected, and valued.

My personal motto is “Doing whatever it takes.” At NEMJDS, that means refusing to give up on a child, finding another way when something is not working, and supporting the teachers and staff who care for our students each day.

WELCOME

What makes NEMJDS especially powerful can be difficult to capture on a website. It is found in the relationships between teachers and students, the energy of a classroom discussion, the pride students feel in their Jewish identity, and the sense of belonging that comes from being part of this community.

Whether you are considering NEMJDS for your child, looking for a meaningful way to support Jewish education in Birmingham, or simply interested in learning more, I encourage you to come see us.

Schedule a visit, meet our students and faculty, and experience NEMJDS for yourself. I believe you will quickly understand why this school means so much to the families and community we serve.

To arrange a visit, please contact me at bcain@nemjds.org. For admissions questions, you may also reach us at admissions@nemjds.org.

I look forward to welcoming you to NEMJDS.
