Tuition Assistance Providing families access to a Jewish education for their children, regardless of income, is a top priority for NEMJDS. An average of 55% of our students receive some form of financial aid to enable them to attend the school. Our scholarship process and tuition reduction programs are described below. If you have any questions about tuition, please contact Priscilla Kirkpatrick. Scholarship Application Process: In order for applicants to apply for Scholarship, a Family Information Form and application fee ($75) must be on file in the school office. PSAS, an independent agency designed to assess ability to pay for private school education, has a form which must be completed and returned to them with latest tax year forms, and a $21 processing fee. These are the only forms required for the school process. Click here for PSAS Scholarship Form. The deadline to return these forms is April 20, unless that falls on Shabbat or another religious holiday in which case the forms are due on the next business day. In order to maximize the amount of scholarship a family receives, they should complete the application process by that date. Any applications submitted after that date will be considered, but the amount of financial assistance available may be reduced. Scholarship Determination Process: When PSAS makes its scholarship recommendation, the Business Manager will present the PSAS report anonymously to the Scholarship Committee for review. The Business Manger will then present the scholarship package to the family. Once the final determination is made, a Tuition Contract is required to hold the student’s space for the given year and secure scholarship funds. No student may attend classes without the above on file. If the family wishes to appeal the Scholarship Package, a written request reviewing extenuating circumstances and stating requested amount of scholarship should be sent to the Business Manager within two weeks. The Scholarship Committee will review all applications anonymously and make a final determination of scholarship amount in a timely manner. No member of the scholarship committee is aware of the name of the family reviewed. Only the Business Manager and Head of School may have this information. Any significant changes in income must be reported in a timely fashion to the Business Manager for possible review by the Scholarship Committee. Failure to report such changes may result in loss of scholarship. Tzedek Tuition Reduction Tzedek, Tzedek T’irdof, “justice, justice we pursue.” The Tzedek Tuition Reduction Request is a new program which adds an additional option to our scholarship process. It is intended to provide middle income families a tuition reduction option in a simple, straightforward process. The Tzedek Tuition Initiative is supported by Day School donors who value making Jewish education accessible to all. The Tzedek plan does not replace the ongoing Scholarship process which is also available. Instead it is a simple tuition reduction request based on number of children and Adjusted Gross Income (see grid below). To take advantage of the Tzedek Tuition Reduction request, please contact the Business Office.
